Crafting the unconventional

Welcome to my portfolio. I specialise in artistic artisan perfumes, creating challenging scent profiles with unique natural materials that push the boundaries of traditional perfumery. Explore my creations and get in touch.

Double, Double.

This perfume is one of my favourites. The goal of this perfume was to capture my personality in an uncanny and partially unresolved way. This perfume embodies me from a different universe. The scent profile is other-worldly, but not cosmic. It’s grounded but completely abstract. I am using a few different herbal natural materials, and some sweeter synthetic materials too. In the top notes, the materials I am using are bright, fruity, and slightly synthetic, reminiscent of childhood joy, like a sweet shop. The heart utilises the herbal natural materials, to give the perfume a more mature, green, bitter aspect. The childhood wonder being subdued, altered, and manipulated slowly into darkness. The base features different balsams, agarwood oil, and some synthetic fixatives. A full transformation of character. The opening is bright and sweet with subtle bitterness, and what’s left is antique wood, resins, and Thai oud.

Remember The Future.

This perfume is born from a memory that you haven’t had yet. This perfume creates a sense of unsettlement within the recipient. It is inevitable. The main inspiration for this perfume was to take a pub atmosphere in its entirety - the tables sticky with beer, and the warmth of the patterned carpet - and subvert it in a way not done before. I created a delicate and unusual water lily accord and paired it with a simple violet accord. To create more unease, I added a small amount of birch tar, not so that the perfume is particularly smoky, but to add a layer of depth that is required for the desired atmosphere.

Stardust We Are.

One of my most recent creations is 'Stardust We Are.’ My inspiration for this perfume was a celebration of the cosmic significant insignificance of life on Earth. When opposed with the idea that all life on Earth will eventually grind to a halt, rather than an existential point of view, my perfume explores earthly acceptance to the fact. The perfume is based strongly around a simple smoky accord built primarily on high quality natural materials. This perfume also features authentic Siam oud from a Thai supplier of perfume raw materials, and many other balsams and essential oils, as well as some synthetic materials to avoid controversial and ethically challenging notes such as castoreum, which I have replaced with a Givco castoreum synthetic, and to add fullness to the accords and help with performance.

Sink Or Swim.

'Sink Or Swim.' dives deep into the realm of marine and mineralic scents. The inspiration for this perfume is thrashing waves over a vicious current. I have focused on keeping this perfume easy to wear relative to the avant-garde perfume market, while maintaining the narrative. I have used a mixture of natural and synthetic materials in this perfume, featuring authentic white ambergris tincture, violet leaf absolute in the seaweed accord, and a few ambergris synthetic materials to deepen the ambergris accord. To subvert the classic "marine perfume" norms, I have added a simple pimento accord constructed from a few different ingredients to give the effect of violent thrashing waves. This is not a tropical perfume.

Official notes:

Top: Seaweed, Marine Notes, Pimento, Elemi, Bergamot Rind, Mineral Notes

Heart: Liquorice, Salt, Ambergris, Aldehydes, Wet Stone, Blood

Base: Ambergris, Driftwood, Ocean Air, Cold Skin, Industrial water

Rot.

‘Rot.’ was my first professional-grade perfume that I crafted. After learning the ropes and playing around with natural materials, this was the first step towards my portfolio and still one of my favourite creations. The prompt I gave myself was "Early morning coffee. Morning light stinging your eyes.", and I think that I was able to capture this well. This perfume is designed to be a picture-frame of crushing heartache. Of course, perfume should ideally bring joy to the wearer, hence, this perfume is a more pleasant and wearable perfume than a particularly melancholic one. This perfume utilises coffee naturals as the primary components in the perfume, so the perfume turns to a 'skin scent' relatively quickly. I do not plan on reformulating however, as ‘Rot.’ smells just as I envisioned it, and a change in materials only takes away from the fragrance. Naturally, this is not an overpowering perfume. Rot focuses on a deep, rich black coffee accord, with nutty, minty, and faintly citrusy facets to embody a vague memory of better times returning briefly, and disappearing just as it returned.
